Creating a Culture of Respect in the Workplace:
What To Do About Sexual Harassment, Bullying, and Other Bad Behavior
March 29, 2018 • 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
CPS HR Training Center
2450 Del Paso Road #220 - Sacramento
Dinner Included

Recently, a deluge of high-profile sexual harassment and bullying cases have surfaced. The #MeToo, #TimesUp, and #stopbullying movements are having some impact by encouraging victims to speak up.

While sexual harassment prevention and similar training programs have been in existence for decades— it has not been enough. Culture change can only take place if victims feel they can step forward, bystanders don’t stay silent and organizations are more active in modeling and holding everyone accountable for creating a positive working environment. This interactive session is designed to connect you with ideas, tips and tools for you to use in your organization.

Our panel of experts will share and discuss with participants the critical role of organizational development and training professionals in changing your workplace culture to be one of respect and civility.

This panel will explore:

  • The role of organizational development (OD) and training in changing culture to one of respect, civility and intolerance of assault and harassment.
  • What is culture change?
  • How does it apply to this specific aspect of organizational culture?
  • How current training needs to change to address the culture?

Panelists Include:

Lawrence Hiner, IV - Chief Learning Officer at Workforce Equanimity
My ambition is to live in a world where people enjoy the work they do and the place they do it. After years as a trainer and facilitator for a Fortune 50 telecommunications company, I got a first-hand look at the way employees of a large company can easily become disconnected with the goals of the organization - and it was not a complicated reason why. People generally had no idea of their actual role was within the organization and that led to a range of conspiracy theories on the true intent of top level management.

As an independent business leader and contributor to the business community, I want to bring my talents to bear on this problem. My company builds and distributes tools for organizations to use that increase workers’ awareness of their role in an organization's mission and vision. At the same time, organizations experience amazing employee engagement leading to higher profitability, lower turnover, and a competitive workforce.

My focus is on designing Intentional Learning Organizations that reflect the culture of an organization & the work environment it wants to promote. I am not afraid to dig in and learn specific business practices that define a market advantage for a business and help embed that in the employee experience from new hire to retire.
