Overview:

The Instructional Designer III manages the needs and demands of multiple stakeholders in the development of innovative online/blended programs and courses in support of Carrington’s business goals and objectives. The position is assigned to work closely with various groups within Carrington, DeVry Online Services and DeVry Education Group to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of course development resulting in on-time implementation of Carrington’s curricula. This role will also function to support updates, revisions and redevelopment of courses as well as faculty
training as needed.  This individual will work closely with Carrington campus and program Deans and Directors, campus and online faculty, the DeVry Online Services course design and academic technology team, DVG’s academic team group, Carrington’s Faculty Management Team, consultants/contractors and third party vendors as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages all aspects of the course development, update and revision process; Manages course development and related implementation activities; Modifies tasks, sequencing, and resourcing as appropriate to maintain progress including the off-cycle development of online courses. Identifies and addresses obstacles ensuring appropriate resolution; Communicates course development progress and issues to team members especially related to the impact of changes to project resources, scheduling scope and delivery.  [timelines, schedules]; collaboration with internal teams and external vendors

 

  • Analyzes Carrington’s annual development plan and identifies resources required.

 

 

  • Develops detailed course development work plans, which include key activities, timelines and resource requirements needed to achieve campus or online objectives while adhering to an appropriate systematic development process.

 

  • Tracks and documents completion of course development activities over the 24 week development cycle and initiates efforts to advance the work plan as needed.

  

  • Manages multiple course development projects according to plan while monitoring, measuring and reporting on progress to ensure courses are delivered on time and with the highest level of quality.

 

  • Provides input into evidence-based instructional methods [pedagogical innovation?] during course development cycle to enhance course content, improve online teaching effectiveness, and increase instructor productivity.

 

  • Creates and manages a document repository for online courses including course maps, syllabi, templates for learning platform and specific course materials.  Maintains repository with user-friendly file nomenclature and insures that shared documents are consistently updated.

 

  • Participates on internal projects and pilots (as needed)

                                         

  • Handles other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related area (e.g., computer science; education). Terminal degree highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply instructional design best practices and adult learning theory in an online environment is required.
  • Five + years experience in online education (higher education preferred) (or related area)
    • Experience collaborating with faculty and university academics to design, deliver, implement and maintain curriculum projects
    • Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance instruction and improve learning
    • Experience working with academics to analyzed instructional design problems
    • Experience conducting needs assessments, analyzing data and using data to make recommendations
    • Experience with learning outcomes assessment
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, web page layout, authoring tools, web technologies and graphic design is required.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies
  • Strong knowledge of  MS Office and Adobe products
  • Excellent written and verbal  communication skills
  • Demonstrated skill in managing conflict and skill in relationship building and problem solving
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
