Department Description:

UC Davis Extension is the continuing and professional education division of UC Davis. In this capacity, UC Davis Extension partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis. UC Davis Extension instructors include outstanding faculty from every school and college as well as distinctive working professionals in a wide variety of disciplines. Last year, UC Davis Extension recorded more than 62,000 enrollments in 1,400 unique classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. UC Davis Extension is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. Each year UC Davis Extension contributes nearly $10 million to UC Davis in the form of revenue shared with partner schools and colleges, fees and assessments, and course discounts extended to staff and faculty. As an academic unit of the University, UCDE employs over 200 career employees (PSS, MSP, CX, TX, SX, Academics), utilizes limited, contract and more than 50 student employees during peak periods, and draws on the expertise of over 400 by agreement instructors.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of instructional designers and project managers, works with faculty and instructors to create new courses for online delivery and to define and implement appropriate instructional strategies to redesign existing coursework for distributed delivery via the web, with no loss of integrity or effectiveness. Specifically, works with Instructional Designer to determine educational objectives, learning outcomes, audience assessment, ensure copyright procedures are followed, assist in determining course format, content capture methodology, media elements to be included in course, interactivity elements, assessment techniques, and overall course design for higher education, professional and continuing education audiences.

Work Environment:

Position is based in Sacramento at the Sutter Square Galleria facility. Valid CA driver's license required.
Use own vehicle as transportation to meeting locations within the greater Sacramento area.
Work occasional overtime. Ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

-Experience converting instructional content into various presentational formats for higher education, professional and continuing education audiences.
-Experience in information design using industry best practices.
- Experience using PowerPoint to create visual presentations.
-Oral and written communication skills to develop courseware, scripts, training materials, etc., and convey them to a diverse audience.
-Organizational skills to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous complex projects, distribute effort among the projects, meet tight deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.
-Skill to take direction from multiple design leads on multiple, simultaneous projects.  

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in the application of technology in instruction within a higher educational, professional, or continuing education setting.
-Knowledge of the principles of curriculum design and development.
-Experience with a variety of instructional delivery media.
-Skill to communicate technical and non-technical information with staff members, at all levels, and students within the University.
-Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills for interfacing with a wide variety of professional and academic individuals to include private sector vendors, contractors and customers with varied computer skills.
-Organizational and creative problem solving skills.
-Experience with a designing graphics and layouts.
-Experience designing and developing training content.
-Knowledge of web based training delivery.
-Knowledge of teaching principles and practices.
