Research Administration Training Officer - Davis, CA

The Office of Research (OR) has overall responsibility for promotion of scholarship and management of research funding for the campus. OR manages extramural financial support, furthers research relationships with government and industry, and assists faculty in development of their scholarly research. The major units in the OR include: Sponsored Programs, 

Institutional Review Board Administration, Research Compliance and Integrity, and Innovation Access. The Sponsored Programs Office has primary responsibility to provide administrative review of proposals and, on behalf of the Regents, submit proposals and negotiate awards for research at UC Davis. 

OVCR Sponsored Program Training Officer is responsible for developing training programs for campus staff and faculty involved in internal and external sponsored research and scholarly endeavors as well as internal training for Sponsored Programs' staff. 

Training will cover all aspects of proposal and award administration including preparation and internal review of the proposal; overview of steps involved in negotiation and acceptance of an award; financial and administrative management, closeout and audit. Participants receive a comprehensive overview of this complex and constantly changing administrative environment. 

Training programs will assist campus staff to prepare for the Certified Research Administrators exam. Topics include: Regulatory issues (OMB Circulars), Proposal development (faculty assistance, funding information, pre-award resource material, electronic submission), Proposal preparation and review of compliance issues (UC policies, financial conflict of interest, human & laboratory animal use, certifications, other regulatory requirements). Steps involved in award negotiation and acceptance, Post-award administration (effort reporting, financial management, agency liaison, fiscal and reporting issues), Closeout and audit (final reporting, audit issues, project conclusion). Develop a training manual for Sponsored Programs staff to support in-house training, develop a campus-based manual for faculty and staff to include information on sponsor and institutional regulations and processes, delivering and developing programs for departmental research administrators, choosing instructors who are subject matter experts for the Responsible Conduct of Research program, and developing and presenting orientation for new faculty.
